Welcome to the Salisbury State School Website.School Leaders for 2011

We hope it provides you with the information you need as well as an insight into the Spirit of Salisbury – “Small School – Big Heart”.

Last year, our beautiful school turned 90 years old and the whole community joined in the celebrations! There was obvious pride on the faces of all who attended as they saw how this great school had evolved.

The 90th celebrations coincided with the opening of our wonderful new Multi-purpose Hall, Resource Centre and Computer Lab. The students, staff and families are all grateful for the federal Building the Education Revolution funding which made these additions possible. 2010 was a year of renewal as many of our facilities received a facelift through either federal or State funding. We now have a positive and aesthetically attractive school environment with facilities for the 21st Century which make teaching and learning a pleasure.

Renewal has also occurred in our teaching and curriculum. Last year, our school, and all Queensland State schools, participated in a Teaching and Learning Audit. We were extremely proud of the results, scoring 6 High ratings and 2 Medium. Full credit goes to our talented teaching team. As a Literacy Partnership school, we have also been fortunate to have a Reading Coach, Mrs Sally Everton, on staff 3 days a fortnight over the last 2 years and into 2011. Classroom practice in the teaching of reading now reflects latest best practice and research. In 2010, 22.7% of our Year 7 students scored in the top 2 bands in NAPLAN for Reading, a dramatic increase on 3.8% in 2008! Numeracy results were also impressive with 31.8% in the top 2 bands up on 7.4% in 2008.

With a substantial increase in enrolments in 2011, we have now been able to create the position of Curriculum Co-ordinator. Mrs Andrea Cowley has taken on this role, contributing her expertise to the planning and teaching process.  Andrea will also lead us into 2012 as we implement the new National Curriculum.

At Salisbury State School, all students are welcome and actively demonstrate our 4 Cs:

Care for Self
Care for Others
Care for Learning
Care for Property

We are a very multi-cultural school with students from 37 different countries. We value and celebrate this diversity in every way possible. Harmony Day is our favourite festival with the motto “Everyone Belongs” at the heart of all we do.

Parents are well represented by our small but energetic P&C Association led by Ms Paige Garland, President, Rebecca Easterman, Secretary and Simone Kooymans, Treasurer. In 2011, all fundraising will go towards a quality sound system for our new hall. Grant applications will focus on lighting for the tennis courts, repair, repainting and new starting blocks for the swimming pool and a new senior adventure playground. Working Bees each term help to keep our grounds neat and tidy and green! Please consider supporting this hard-working group.
